A
Little About Me
After
15 years of activity, I've picked up a few things. I've had a
lot of different experiences, not because I'm searching for the
perfect formula, but because I enjoy being active and enjoy pursuing
unique aspects that a variety of activities have to offer. Running
is one of my passions. There is something about being out there, your heart beating, feet hovering above the ground, flying along faster than most rock and roll songs. I believe the health benefits of running are extraordinary.
One
of my favorite workouts has always been kickboxing.
There is something magical in kickboxing. The instant imagery
of kickboxing is two people kicking the stuffing out of each other.
Sure, there is that aspect of it, but you can't have every work
out like that. You would be completely beat up in a few days.
Kickboxing, like boxing, combines endurance and power. Your mind
is kept active with a variety of possible moves and drills–
you don't really have the TIME to daydream in a kickboxing class.
And as always, what you put into it is what you get out of it.
It can be very intense, or it can just be a calorie burner.
Racquetball
is also one of my passions. It's called an old man's sport but
that's because these guys have been playing it forever! Getting
good at racquetball has been a challenge. It takes a while because
there is so much to absorb and so many aspects of the game. An
obvious skill is required in being able to make shots that your
opponent can't return, as well as a strategy in where to place
the ball and how to meet it so that your opponent doesn't get
it by you. It's a fast paced game (which has the capability of
being slow at the hands of an expert) and you need a great deal
of endurance. It combines so many physical and mental aspects,
it truly is an amazing all-around challenge.
I
have always felt very strongly about weight
training as well. When all is said and done,
it's an excellent way to maintain your body. Resistance training
keeps your muscles working, which means burning calories, as well
as keeping your body firm, tight and healthy. Properly maintained,
there should be nothing that pushes your body to fatigue in your
day to day life. Sure, the occasional competition can test you
a bit, but overall, everyday should be relatively easy to deal
with and injury-free.
